TOURISM IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

A bohemian and cosmopolitan atmosphere
One of the most painteresque cities of the Mexican patrimony is the beautiful San Miguel de Allende. Founded in 1542, it has a particular style with its colonial constructions and narrow alleys in stone. This artistic city is filled with art galleries and stores exhibiting the works of local and international artisans and artists who falled in love with this town and settled here. The presence of these foreigners and numerous tourists creates a cosmopolitan environment. The touristic infrastructure is pretty well developed and there are magnificent hotels and inns, gourmet restaurants, night clubs and elegant cafes where it is possible dancing all night long.
Dowtown Square

Church "San Miguel Arcángel
This impressing gothic construction, located in front of San Miguel Downtown Square is one of the most beautiful architectonic attractions of the city. It was built in XVIII century, but the neogothic front was added in XIX century.
Historical museum "Casa de Ignacio Allende"
A part of San Miguel de Allende´s name is due to Ignacio de Allende, a Mexican Independence hero. This insurgent was born in this XVII century house. Now it is a museum that shows historical objects. Some of these pieces are: a sculpture of Allende and some of his personal objects, archeological artifacts and historical documents of the city.
Fiestas and Traditions
Sanmiguelada: Every third Saturday of September, at Downtown Square, the running of the bulls, inspired by the famous Pamplonada (Spain), takes place.
Fiesta de San Miguel Arcángel: September 29th is the day to celebrate the city’s Saint Patron with a fair, music, fireworks, processions and corridas.
Fiesta de San Antonio de Padua: On every 13th of June takes place the parade of the "Locos" with costumes, musicians, poets, allegoric cars, etc.
The Orchid House
The orchids amateurs will be pleased visiting the incredible orchid house in Santo Domingo street, where it is possible to admire hundreds of these gorgeous flowers..
"El Charco del Ingenio" and the Botanical Garden "El Cante"
This extraordinary natural reserve is located a few minutes from San Miguel's downtown. Settled in a canyon, it consists of 220 acres and offers the possibility to practice outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain bike, rock climbing, etc. Also you can see there the magnificent Botanical Garden El Cante, where you can appreciate more than one thousand species of cactus and Mexican plants.
Art crafts and Art
San Miguel is renowned for its numerous boutiques and galleries where you can acquire art crafts from the whole country, work pieces of local and international artists and decoration objects very stylized. It is the ideal place to buy souvenirs made of maché paper, wool, metal, glass and ceramic.
