OTHER ATTRACTIONS IN GUANAJUATO STATE

"The Country of the Seven Lights"

In Valle de Santiago, located in the South part of Guanajuato, there are seven volcanic craters called “hoyas” that may interest people who love adventure tourism. Some of them offers the possibility of aquatic sports and others shows an almost lunar landscape. One of them, La Hoya de Rincon de Parangueo is accessible from a 300 meter long tunnel.

El Cerro del Cubilete and Cristo Rey

Travelers interested in religious tourism may be attracted to the Cerro del Cubilete, a mount located between Silao and Guanajuato where a huge statue of Christ is placed. Accessible everyday by bus, it receives 500 000 visitants per year. The top reasons to go there is to pay for a miracle, enjoy the quiet and sacred environment or just admire the superb landscape at 2 480 meters above the sea. From this point you can see Silao and Guanajuato and practice paragliding and hang gliding.



Irapuato

Located at 46 km from Guanajuato, Irapuato is renowned as “Strawberries world capital”. Every year on first week of April, Expo Fresas takes place and all year long is possible buying and enjoying strawberry products such as strawberries with cream and “crystallized” strawberries. Recreative area of Las Palomas

Las Palomas, in the Sierra de Guanajuato is located at 15 minutes from Guanajuato by the highway to Dolores Hidalgo. It is a splendid natural area, perfect for ecotourism which offers the possibility to practice outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking, bird watching and get knowledge about the local flora and fauna.



La Sierra de Lobos

Sierra de Lobos, a natural protected area is located near Leon. This place has hotels and you can practice fishing, hiking, camping, etc.
